If the effects of Adam’s sin extend universally, then all humanity is equally in need of redemption. No one is excluded from this fallen condition, and thus, no one can be excluded from God’s redemptive work without undermining the symmetry between the universality of sin and grace. The doctrine of human depravity provides the logical underpinning for the universal scope of salvation. If all are equally lost in Adam, then all must be equally dependent on God’s grace for restoration.The universality of sin necessitates the universality of grace. A partial solution (saving only some) would fail to fully address the problem of universal sinfulness.
